The Ohio Haunted Conference
by Rex B. Hamilton
Haunted house professionals from around will attend The Ohio Haunted Conference on June 23, 2001 in Mansfield, Ohio. This meeting of dark minds is the collaborative effort of nearly a dozen haunters from the Buckeye State. The all-day event features hands-on laboratory sessions, lecture seminars, fire safety classes and a roundtable discussion. Attendees who participate in a lab session will construct an item that he or she can take home and use in their haunt this October. My goal is to meet other people in the haunted attraction industry. I want to get people to work together, to share ideas and make the industry stronger, explains Dave Treisch, of The House of Nightmares in Bangs, Ohio, who is the president of the Conference. Included in the admission fee are breakfast, buffet lunch, bound handouts, t-shirts, door prizes, a live fire demonstration during a cocktail reception.
General admission for the Ohio Haunted Conference is $150.00 per person and each of the three hands-on lab sessions requires an additional $10 fee for materials.
Lectures include:
How Hours of Operation Affect the Quality of Your Cast and Show by Haunted House Actor Rex B. Hamilton
Maximize Your Scares Without Maximizing Your Efforts by Myron St. John, Planet Horror Haunted Productions
Scaring Up Media Attention by Kelly Collins, Terror Park
Life Safety Course by Amy McElvain, Mansfield Fire Department
Hands-on Labs include:
Fun With Monster Mud by Matthew Roach, Terror Park
Building a Pose-able PVC Monster From Scratch by David Lady, Horror Hotel
Basic Animatronics by Denny Dahm, Terror By Design
Roundtable Discussion Moderated by Dave Treisch, The House of Nightmares
For those looking for an additional spooky activity, for an extra $50, you and your flashlight can spend the night exploring the creepiest building in Ohio, the Mansfield Reformatory. For nearly a century, this huge prison was home to thousands of Ohio’s most incorrigible criminals. One of the prison’s steel cellblocks is so big that it is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. More than a million square feet of darkness await the brave.
Registration forms are available on-line at www.ohiohauntedconference.com, or contact Rex B. Hamilton at 216-226-7764 or by e-mail at EvilLordZargon@msn.com. Mail your registration form and payment by June 11 to The Ohio Haunted Conference, PO Box 3957, Mansfield, OH 44907
