Frightworld Screampark Haunted House in Buffalo, NY
October 5th, 2009
Frightworld Screampark was the third and final visit of the night on Friday night. This Screampark features some amazing set design and a great indoor midway that was full of folks having fun. With five fantastic haunted houses, this is a top-notch event.
When I entered Frightworld, the first thing I noticed was how much energy there was on the indoor midway. The place was pretty busy this night but the set up distributed he people around the space and kept things orderly while also providing plenty of space for guests to roam around and have fun. The indoor midway looks great too. It’s basically a rectangle with two haunts on either side, one haunt on the far end and the building entrance at the front end. Each Haunt has a custom made facade and all of them are really well done.
The five haunts are Phobiaz, Return of Mummy’s Curse, Carnevil, House of the Dead and Wicked Woods. I was very impressed with the set design and decoration. I hesitate to make this next comment because it’s a pretty bold statement, but I have to be honest, the haunts reminded me of Universal Studios in Orlando. The quality of the set dressing, the attention to detail, and the lighting all combine to create very impressive sets. When one of the owners, Ron, told me that they are a temporary Haunt and only had five weeks to build, I didn’t believe him. I still have trouble believing him because the sets really look that good.
Frightworld has really figured out how to create an all indoor screampark. They even built an 18 foot waterfall inside of it to create an interesting focal point inside. It’s beautiful, it’s cool and it’s fun. I wish I had more pictures because it looks so good, but it was crowded and then we got to talking and then I had to hit the road. There’s a good chance I’ll be back in the future though. Thank you for your hospitality and have a terrific season.
