Hangman’s House of Horrors Haunted House, Fort Worth, TX
October 29th, 2009
Open for its 21st season, Hangman’s House of Horrors is one of the top professional haunted houses operated to benefit a charity. They have solid haunts and a great event and I was glad I got to see it in person.
I got to Hangman’s House of Horrors early in the evening so I could take some photos before things got too crazy. They are going to be featured in an upcoming issue of Haunted Attraction Magazine so I won’t give you a complete rundown of their history and charity work here but look for it in issue #53.
Hangman’s features one large main haunt with several smaller satellite haunts on the property. They also have concessions, and the night I was there, they had a live band, and a karaoke stage (no I didn’t sing – leave the horror for the haunted house). Its a fun atmosphere and a great place to hang out.
I visited the smaller haunts first. I enjoyed the smaller haunts and it was a nice change from the larger haunts since it was a 5 – 10 min walkthrough in each. They are long enough to get in several scares, have some laughs and experience completely different theming. They also help split the crowd up so that they aren’t all going into one line at a time. The actors in these haunts were solid and picked their spots well.
After the satellite haunts, I headed for the main event and found a couple to walk through with. The theme in the main haunt this year was nightmares and we were trapped inside the nightmare of one particular patient. The opening room had a great gag where a guest had to put a mask on the patient and when they approached the patient, a second actor jumped from behind and gave her a great scare. For the rest of the haunt, you wander through different scenes representing different fears and phobias. They have some great scares inside that really got our group many times. They also had some platforms and bridges that moved very well and definitely got to people.
Afterwards, I got to meet the producer, D’Ann Dagen who certainly knows a thing or two about running a haunted house. I really enjoyed my visit to Hangman’s – a great haunt with lots of scares, a fun event atmosphere, a warm and professional haunt owner and an event that contributes a lot to deserving charities.
