House of Torment Haunted House, Austin, TX
October 28th, 2009
My second haunt of the evening in Austin was House of Torment Haunted House. This is a very strong show with a great combination of fantastic scene design and great acting.
The House of Torment Haunted House actually has two haunted houses at the location. The first one was House of Torment: Rise of the Abominations and the second one was Illusion Manor. I bought my ticket and headed to House of Torment first.
The scenes in both Haunts are really first class. They look great, are lit well and many are different than what you see in many houses. There are also a nice variety of props and animations controlled manually in a remote location to deliver optimal scares.
But don’t think this one of those museum like haunts with pretty scenes but not much scare. The actors in these haunts make sure guests are confronted with startles and scares throughout the tour. It was a Monday night, but the actors still gave a fantastic show with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and it looked like they really enjoy scaring people.
One of Torment’s strengths is the contemporary feel of the show. There wasn’t anything real traditional about the haunts and even Illusion Manor which is Torment’s take on the traditional mansion was much more up to date and current than most.
I enjoyed meeting Dan McCullough and John Love and look forward to seeing them again. Great job on the haunts and have a great season.
