Howl-O-Scream Haunted House, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA
October 11th, 2009
I was having trouble fitting a Virginia Haunt into the schedule on a Sunday so I decided to visit Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia. I had never been to Busch Gardens and was surprised by the park.
Busch Gardens was pretty crowded today likely because of the great weather and Columbus Day. The Haunts opened up at 6:00pm and I Quick Queue’d up to the front. There are actually six different Haunts at Howl-O-Scream: Bitten, Cavern of Darkness, The Hunted, Catacombs, Cursed, and Revenge of Pompeii.
The Haunts themselves are decorated well but need something and I know what it is: Mini-Spotlights! Their scenes were either over lit or too dark to see the detail or actors. Mini-spotlights would have made the show much better in my opinion. The actors were very big on one syllable scares too but generally had decent timing.
The park itself creates an incredible Halloween atmosphere. The decorations throughout the park are fantastic and fun. The roaming actors do a great job of startling the crowd and the fog is everywhere that keeps it eerie. I had no idea that the park was so beautiful – the trees, the water and the landscaping create an amazing setting to throw a Halloween festival.
