I was looking forward to visiting this Haunt because I had heard so much about Kevin McCurdy and also had the chance to meet him at one of the conventions. Kevin’s Haunted House is very unique  and I learned a lot about haunting by visiting this haunt and also hada great time.

Kevin McCurdy’s Haunted Mansion is located on county park grounds and is tucked back in the woods which gives the event a nice atmosphere. On site is the facade for the Haunted House which was a theater them this year, a stage for live performances and a concession booth.

I met Kevin at the ticket booth and we went to the Haunted house entrance together. The Haunt is called The Twisted Tale of Damien Novello a ventriloquist from the last century. At the start of the show, before we even got inside, our hostess did a quick magic trick where she managed to collect the names of a few people in the group which they would use later. We entered the first room where we were greeted by a theater employee who gave us the backstory to the haunt. While he was doing this, a video was playing that was shot to look like an old silent movie that went along with the story. The video was great – it looked perfect and set the mood. The actor was even better – enthusiastic and funny, he got the group to laugh a couple different times.

We then went into room with theater sets where we met the main character and the gag they did in here was just fantastic. It fit the theme, scared the grAdd New Post ‹ Haunted Attraction — WordPressoup and was executed perfectly. Throughout the Haunt, the sets are incredible but what I noticed the most was the actors. The actors did an amazing job in every scene. This was the first time I felt like I was watching real actors performing instead of people working as actors. One of the reasons is because the way the show is designed it gives the actors a chance to perform more than a single line or scream.

The next haunt was Baron’s Boneyard which was a voodoo themed graveyard. It was a smaller haunt but the opening bit was fun and scary and when the lights came back on we all had a huge laugh. The third Haunt was Demon’s Keep, a castle themed Haunt. The haunt featured detailed scenes and actors with good bits of dialogue. It also had a great overhead scare with a heavy weight hitting a cage on top of us.

Kevin’s Haunts are very theatrical relative to other haunted houses. You can debate the throughput issues this type of show can have, but you cannot debate the quality or entertainment value of the show. I loved it and I know the other guests did too. The show had atmosphere, scares, screams, and laughter and provided great entertainment overall.

Kevin, thank you for your hospitality and it was great seeing you again. Thank you for producing a unique and creative show. Have a great season!
