My Visit to The Realm of Darkness in Pontiac, Michigan
September 28th, 2009
There aren’t many Haunted Houses open on Sunday night this early in the season, but I found The Realm of Darkness Haunted House was open and paid them a visit. This Haunt has some amazing detail and scene decoration that are absolutely world class.
The Realm of Darkness Haunted House is located in a large building of what likely used to be a busy shopping center. The building is large and the facade is easy to see form the the street. I was able to meet the owner of the Realm of Darkness, Denise Sithe before going in. Denise is super nice and told me how another tenant had some water problems that impacted Realm and cause them to rebuild a good portion of the Haunt due to water damage this year. While that would be heart-breaking for any Haunter, once you see the level detail that Denise puts into the Haunt, you’ll feel twice as bad for her.
The Haunt overall has a castle theme to it and features very detailed and elaborately decorated sets. One person I was with described it as “museum like” in the way the scenes were created and detailed. Early in the show, we came across a modified version of Pale Night’s Asylum Door and the unique twists Denise had done to it were a nice touch and made it more effective when combined with the actor interaction in my opinion.
I took some photos that you can see below but we didn’t have a few hours to do a real photo shoot so they don’t do the show justice but hopefully you can catch a glimpse of the scenes. The scenes were varied and the path changed levels, climbed stairs, and had low spaces too that presented different viewpoints throughout the Haunt.
Denise, it was great meeting you and thank you for your hopsitality. I know that your Haunt has inspired other Haunters and it certainly inspired me.

Wow, that place looks fantastic! I’d love to come up and see that. The pictures are definitely good enough to give a feel for how creepy it is.
Hey, do you ever come to Pittsburgh? I’d love to see an entry here for Hundred Acres Manor. It has got to be one of the longest and best haunted attractions around. I saw a lights-on tour and was still disturbed by it.
I think it’s time my friends and I took a trip to Michigan to check out some of your favorites.
