Nightmare on 13th Haunted House, Salt Lake City, Utah
October 8th, 2009
Wow! I could probably leave the entire blog post to just that word. This is a phenomenal haunted house. I know I would get a ton of emails if I only said that so here are some more details.
Nightmare on 13th was my second visit of the night and I soon realized, I never should have left my good camera in New Jersey. When I got inside, I was met my Troy Barber (super great guy) who gave me a quick tour behind the scenes. Then we met up with his co-owner Mike and we got in line for the queue line theater show. The queue line snakes around in a room that is elevated from front to back so all the guests can see the show. The show starts with the Saw puppet guy followed by a Freddy Krueger bit and then an exorcist scene. I don’t want to give the gags away, but this was without a doubt, the best pre-show I have seen and the crowd loved it.
There are actually two different haunts, Nightmare on 13th and Extreme. The first Haunt I went through was Nightmare and it features a variety of scenes and scares that are executed extremely well. The sets look great, the actors had terrific timing and the variety throughout the Haunt was fantastic. The show has a good pace and mixes things up with illusions, startles and great scenes. The animations seemed to be suped too and seemed to move faster than animations at other houses.
The second haunt is called Extreme and is a little louder, and a little more aggressive than Nightmare. A powerful air cannon hits you right at the start and you can tell right away that this is very different from Nightmare. Once again, great scares, dark spaces and good acting made this a wonderful Haunt.
I really am disappointed I didn’t have more time and my good camera to document this visit better. It’s one of my favorites on the trip. They clearly have put a great deal of effort and thought into the haunt and I was amazed at how good everything was. There were gags and scares that I have seen elsewhere, but these guys just seem to do them better.
Troy and Mike, thank you so much for letting me visit with you. I am sorry I didn’t have more time to spend with you. Nightmare on 13th is a phenomenal haunt and it has become one of my favorites. I look forward to seeing you guys again!

Thanks for the post. I have wanted to check out this haunt for a long time but havent really had a chance to yet. one place that I have been to that i really like is the haunted forest in American Fork. I really think that you guys should head out there sometime and see what you think about it. It isnt too far away from Salt Lake, and they really are awesome! I try to go every year if i can. here is their website. http://www.hauntedutah.com/forest.html
