ScreamWorld Haunted House, Houston, TX
October 28th, 2009
My hotel was near to ScreamWorld Haunted House so I was able to get there a little early to talk to the owner, Jim Fetterly and take come photos of this great screampark.
ScreamWorld Haunted House is a screampark with five different attractions: A chain link fence maze called the Maniac Maze then indoor walkthroughs – The Haunted Hotel, The Edge of Darkness, Movie Monsters in 3D and then and outdoor walkthrough graveyard named the Tobias Strange Family Cemetery.
The scenes at all of the haunts were really strong and featured a wide variety of scenes ranging from skull rooms to mansion type scenes to hillbilly scenes to sewer scenes. WHile there was variety in the scenes, there was consistency in the set design. The sets looked great and had a nice combination of animations/props and actors in each one. The lighting is also set to highlight the detail without flooding the room with light so it keeps its creep value. You can tell that Jim really cares about his haunt and is continuously making efforts to improve an already great show.
Besides being a well designed and well built haunt, it has some great scares in it. The actors were well placed and worked well with the props and animations in the rooms. Jim is a big fan of scare tactics and is constantly looking for new and better ways to scare his guests. And from the screams I heard going through on a very busy night, he has pretty much figured it out.
Jim, you have a great haunt and I hope you have a great season. Thank you for your hospitality and I look forward to seeing you again.
