Due to some weather concerns, I re-scheduled my night and headed out to The Haunt House Haunted House in Caddo Mills, TX. This haunted house is a younger haunt but based on what I saw, will be around for a while.

We’ve getting a lot of rain in the Dallas area lately but luckily, the rain stopped and it looked like The Haunt House Haunted House would be ready to go. I got to the haunt a little early so I could some shots before things got cranking. The sump pump in the parking lot said a lot and it was working overtime getting rid of the water.

I met with the owner Bart Butler along with other members of his team, Hobbs and Mike. They gave me a quick behind the scenes tour and then I toured the haunt. The haunt doesn’t have a strongly defined theme but I think its fair to describe it generally as a farmhouse/redneck themed haunt this year. The scenes are done very well and the haunt has a nice mix of tight hallways and dark areas to keep guests uncomfortable. They have one hallway that is particularly dark with a lot of shock panels on it that worked great.

I also like their body bag room. Its a fairly common type of room across haunted houses, but what made this one different was that instead of bodies wrapped in plastic, these were wrapped in cloth. It may seem like a subtle difference but going through, it gives a different texture than the plastic and for some reason feels more real (though wrapping a bleeding body in plastic probably makes more sense). They also had a mine shaft that looked and felt very authentic as you walked down into it. Another hallway I liked was the cattle run hallway. It had wood slat walls and ceiling and they it was lit gave it an eerie feel.

The actors were also very good. The makeup and costumes were interesting and liked the custom work they did to give their haunt a unique feel. Bart, Hobbs, and Mike, thank you for your hospitality. I enjoyed your haunt and hope you get good weather these last few nights!
