I got the chance to visit The Terrorfest in Columbus, Ohio Thursday night during their preview event for media and some radio winners. Scenic detail, top-notch animations, and quality acting were all on display on what seemed to be a pretty smooth first night. The first thing you see is the facade in the parking lot (an old brick building look to provide some shelter in the queue line that blends in well with the rest of the building). After a brief wait in the queue line, we were ushered into an antechamber where we learned the house rules from a good looking CGI effect. From there we entered the first haunted house, The House of Nightmares. This haunt features a high variety of scenic textures and animations – with at least a couple, I had not seen before. But, the haunt wasn’t over-reliant on the props and had plenty of actors interacting with us as we walked through. One section, the catacombs featured rock walls with coffins that looked very good. Another room that was a favorite of mine was a kitchen of sorts. There was also a surgery scene that the actors did a good job with.

The second haunted house was The Brewery Butcher. Once again, the variety in scares and props was a highlight along with some unique animations. The skull lined walls were very cool and freaked out the people in my group. One of the rooms had an actor on a bungee rope that did an awesome job jumping in and scaring our group. Towards the end was a spinning tunnel but instead of lights, dots or swirls, this one was lined with the mask image that the icon character wears when he is doing his butchering. It was a nice touch that looks really cool.

This haunted house offers something for everyone, lots of animations, cool scenes and actors ready to make sure you get scared and have fun. I’d like to thank the owers, Dave Triesch, Steve Kopelman and Keith Corner for their hospitality and congratulate them on putting on a great show!
