Haunted House Haunted Attraction, New York City
October 8th, 2009
Haunted House in New York City is without a doubt, the most different haunted house I have ever visited. I am not going to tell you much about it because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but read on for a few more details.
I was intrigued by the website for Haunted House because…well let me show you their rules:
RULES:
1. STAY ON THE MARKED PATH AT ALL TIMES.
2. YOU WILL BR PROMPTED TO DO CERTAIN ACTIONS, (i.e. “sit down”, “stop”, “move forward”) PLEASE DO EXACTLY AS YOU’RE TOLD. THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY.
3. DO NOT EVER TOUCH THE ACTORS.
4. DO NOT EVER TOUCH THE WALLS.
5. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SPEAKING ALLOWED INSIDE. YOU CAN, HOWEVER, SCREAM AS LOUD AS YOU’D LIKE.
6. YOU MUST WEAR A PROTECTIVE MASK AND CARRY A FLASHLIGHT AT ALL TIMES. (we will provide both of these items for you. please do not bring your own.)
7. YOU MUST WALK TRHOUGH ALONE.
8. If you have an emergency while walking through the house and need to be escorted out, please yell the word “SAFETY” as loud as you can. Stay where you are, remain calm, and someone will come to get you.
Please be aware, you will encounter:
FOG
STROBE LIGHTS
COMPLETE DARKNESS
CRAWLING
GRAPHIC SEXUAL and EXTREMELY VIOLENT SITUATIONS
Now if that doesn’t sound like a good time, what does? Seriously though, I am interested in all haunted houses and one that has these rules must be doing something different so I had to check it out.
Guests are called into a room one at a time. When it was my turn, I entered in and was told to stand on the ‘X’ on the floor which I did. I was given a surgical face mask which I was instructed to wear, offered a shot of whiskey and then told to move to a different location where I was facing a strobe light. I was shortly told to follow the line on the floor and the haunt began.
If you want details from me, you must grab me at a convention sometime because I don’t want to post what they do since it will give a lot away. Going through by yourself has a great effect and amps up the scare factor though. Some people will hate this haunt while others will really like it. I spoke to one couple that was leaving and the woman thought it was an incredible experience while the guy said he just “didn’t get it.”
This Haunt is completely different from anything I have ever seen. I appreciated the uniqueness of the event and it certainly made me think about the psychology of scaring people. Joshua Randall is one of the people responsible for the show and I was glad I got the chance to meet him. He said he wanted to put on a haunted house that was different from what people normally see and he certainly achieved that goal. It gave me a different perspective on what a Haunted House is.
Joshua, thank you for your hospitality and for the experience. Have a great season!
